Getting ready to watch high school football games is exciting. But there is so much more to football than simply scoring touchdowns and blowing up the field. Luckily, there are plenty of places to get the information you need to prepare for game day.
During the last three years, Mater Dei and St. John Bosco have become the two most dominant high school football teams in the country. They’ve combined to produce over 150 players who’ve played at the college level.
During the last five years, Mater Dei has won seven of the last 10 meetings with St. John Bosco, and will make it back to the Open Division championship game for the second consecutive season.
Mater Dei has a lot of talent to go along with their undefeated season, but they’ll have to make fewer mistakes than they did against Bosco. If they make too many, they’ll lose for the first time in three years.
St. John Bosco is the only team to beat Mater Dei this season, and they’re the last team to defeat the Monarchs in the CIF-SS Division 1 championship game. Those two teams will square off in a high school football showdown at Saddleback College on December 10.
The two teams are ranked in the Top 25 of the MaxPreps Super 25 rankings. Those two teams haven’t played each other since the MaxPreps National Champions game in October.
The Mater Dei-St. John Bosco game is a classic, and this could be the season that St. John Bosco becomes the top high school football team in the country.

Having won back-to-back District 10-2A championships, the Saint Thomas Aquinas Falcons will play for the Class 2A Regional Championship this weekend. They enter Friday’s game against Northlake Christian with a 4-1 record. They have already defeated the Northlake Wolverines six times this season.
The Falcons opened the game with a trick play. Quarterback Drew Milton sneaked in from the one yard line, giving the Falcons an early 7-0 lead. After Milton tossed a 19-yard pass to Kendrell Perry, Brayden Leyer kicked a PAT, giving STA a 14-point lead with 6:00 minutes left in the first half.
The Falcons turned up the heat on the Wolverines in the second half. Northlake tried to make it a one-possession game with a final drive to the red zone. They were unable to convert on a running play by Deshaud Sheridan. But the Wolves took over on downs near STA’s 45 with less than a minute remaining.
The Falcons turned to Devaki Williams and Jayden Young for big plays in the second half. Williams rushed for a 39-yard touchdown in the third quarter and Young bolted ahead for a one-yard score with 8:47 left. The two combined for a staggering 76 points.
In the third quarter, the Falcons went on a 66-yard drive. Milton ran for eight yards, Williams for five, and Vaughn for a whopping 23. But, the Falcons failed to add a PAT.
The Saint Thomas Aquinas Falcons picked up a pair of turnovers in the second half. They forced a punt on the Jaguars’ next possession, and then took over at the Bobcat 37 after a Jaguar punt. On the next possession, the Falcons lost 14 yards with less than a minute left on the clock. They were unable to convert the second-half turnover into points, however.
The Saint Thomas Aquinas Football team has won back-to-back District 10-2A Championships and is on a run. They are currently ranked eighth in the state and are likely to move up into the seventh spot in the LHSAA power rankings. They will play at Springfield next week. Their next game is Homecoming against Northlake Christian.

This includes the aforementioned Clements High School in Sugar Land, Texas. Its football program is off to a great start. Despite being only in its second year of existence, the Rangers have already won three games in a row, including a victory over rival Fort Bend Elkins. In fact, Clements football is having its best year in school history.

The school’s athletic programs have won two state championships in the past three years, including one in men’s soccer. On the field, the Rangers are led by senior quarterback Micah Darnell, who suffered a broken collarbone during the first quarter of the Clements-Fort Bend Elkins game. In addition to Darnell, the Rangers have a new head coach in Todd Ericson, who has been instrumental in revamping the team’s recruiting strategy.
In addition to the football program’s success, Clements has received several accolades for its performance in other sports. For instance, the school’s men’s soccer team won the 5A Texas state championship in 2014. Likewise, Clements was named the state’s best overall athletic program in the Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools’ annual survey. In fact, Clements has been ranked as the state’s best overall athletic program for the past three years in a row.
It’s no wonder that the Clements High School football program is raking in the accolades. Not only is the school ranked number one in the state in total enrollment, but it’s also ranked number one in District 20-6A in terms of total number of wins. This has prompted the school to make an aggressive football recruiting push.
Despite the hype around the Whimsical Girls of FBISD Facebook page, Clements officials have yet to determine who sprang the social media gaffe. However, the Clements district is not the only one involved in the social media snafus.
