Vision Warriors in Cherokee County, Georgia – The Zoning Processes

vision warriors cherokee county

Whether you’re in a recovery process or are in the process of zoning your property, there’s a lot to consider. That’s why it’s so important to read up on the process.

Zoning revocation

Earlier this year, Vision Warriors Church, Inc. sought a zoning change from residential to office institutional. Although the request hasn’t been granted, the ministry hasn’t given up, launching an appeal in the process. The church is slated to present its case to the Cherokee County Planning Commission this week. The company has been at the center of a zoning dispute since May.

It’s unclear if Vision Warriors is able to reclaim its zoning victory, but the company is looking to the future with plans for a second campus. A church of this size is likely to require some form of infrastructure, such as a water and sewer line. The site is located on a swath of land owned by the county, and while the church doesn’t have a legal right to it, it can’t be denied that the property is ripe for development.

The company also is seeking to rezone another parcel of land, which is located next door. Although the church is currently using its property as a dormitory, it is looking to expand its facilities into the commercial realm. It is also aiming to rezone a portion of its property to allow for more room for parking. The company says it will also be building a new chapel and a new addiction center, both of which are slated to open in the next few months.

Vision Warriors says its zoning change will allow it to expand its offerings, but there is no doubt the church is not getting a fair shake. The company is hoping to get its zoning change by the end of the month.

lawsuit

Having just purchased the property that is now home to the Vision Warriors, I was pleasantly surprised to see the county had not nixed the zoning certificate. This is the same land that was previously home to the Happy Acres ministry, a faith-based nonprofit that provided temporary housing for missionaries. The organization has operated on this property for more than 30 years and I can attest to the quality of the facilities.

While Vision Warriors hasn’t nixed the zoning, the county has asked its attorneys to drop the case. The lawsuit is a non-starter, according to county spokeswoman Jennifer Osborn, and the county is not about to waste time and taxpayer dollars on a frivolous lawsuit. I suspect that Vision Warriors will continue to do its part to make the area a better place to live. The new owner, Kirk Driscoll, has said that his organization is looking into all of its options. Hopefully he will find a solution that meets his high standards.

While it’s been a while since I’ve been to the area, I know for a fact that I wouldn’t want to live anywhere else. Vision Warriors, in all its glory, has a commendable mission that is certainly well-received by the locals.
