During the 2021 season, the Phil Campbell High School Bobcats claimed the Class 3A State Championship in baseball. The team logged a 42-five record and took home the coveted title with a 7-6 victory over Bayside Academy in the second game of the series. The Bobcats’ winning streak is the longest in program history and they’ve been one of the best in the state for a long time.
The Bobcats’ o-mic is a strong middle infielder who’s been around for four years. Known for his slick glove and a pair of high-shine cleats, Swinney was named a Class 3A All-American in both football and baseball. In the field, he’s a power bat and is capable of playing the left or right side. He’s also one of the fastest players in the league. He’s no slouch in the classroom, either. He’s the epitome of a student leader and his leadership skills were on full display.
The team’s top-tier starting lineup includes three players who’ve starred in the past. The team’s top two hitters are Isac Hill and Hunter Baker, with the latter bringing up the rear as an outfielder. The trio also features a quartet of lefties in Clay Morgan, Sage Raper, Cole Pace, and Noah Rape. The trio of hitters combined for 11 hits, and the Bobcats were on the cusp of a shutout when they managed to score two runs in the fourth inning.
Despite their early season lull, the Bobcats are showing no signs of slowing down. The team is in the thick of the state playoffs with a 6-3 record and a 9-game winning streak. They’ve already snagged the coveted AHSAA Class 3A State Championship and are in prime position to claim their place among the best in Alabama.
