OTHS Football Team Put the Kibosh on Their Rivals

OTHS football team’s Jake Tompkins completed 20 of 29 passes for 336 yards and four touchdowns as the Tigers defeated Coffee 44-0. Matt Pierce caught two passes for 110 yards and a punt for 45 yards. Tony Hendon rushed for 205 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

Whether you are a fan of the high school football or not, you have no doubt seen at least one of the aforementioned in a game. This week’s games saw several of these hulking behemoths put the kibosh on their rivals and fellow brethren.

In fact, it’s worth noting that Ohatchee did not play their best frosh on the same field that hosts Litchfield, although it did make a stop at scrimmage in the early going. The Tigers were also missing a couple of key players, most notably running back Derek Crane, who is the most prolific rusher in the county. Despite a slow start, Ohatchee was able to pull out the win thanks to a pair of touchdowns from Derek Crane and Andrew McMichen and an impressive 80-yard kickoff return from Tony Hendon.

The best part of the day was the re-entry of senior running back Brian Robertson, who was able to rush for 244 yards and three touchdowns on 18 carries. It was also a memorable night for the lil purple devil, who made a pair of catches for over 30 yards. On the other side of the ball, Litchfield’s Ash, whose name is pronounced ah-shee, managed to get in on the act with a whopping 130-yard effort. In fact, the Tigers were able to run the table in the Class 3A, Region 5 contest. This week’s games are the last before the state’s playoffs begin, and with the exception of a couple of regional stragglers, you won’t be hearing much from these bumbling lions for the foreseeable future. With the season on the line, it’s a good time to start thinking about the future of HS football. In the meantime, you can’t go wrong by supporting your local squad! oh, and by the way, Ohatchee is 4-0 in the region and will be a tough team to beat in the regular season. A big cheer to their fans for a job well done! The Litchfield Tigers have a date with the rivals in the fall, but they need to start getting themselves in shape for a run at the Region 5 title.

During the first two weeks of the football season, the Navarre Raiders have had a number of opportunities to make a major play. Some of those opportunities were in the win column while others were just to see if they could hang with some of the region’s top teams. During their game against Gulf Shores on Sunday, the Patriots had the ball in their hands on the opposing 20-yard line. They attempted a long-range field goal that was just short of the goal line.

They also had the chance to put the ball in their own end zone, but their luck ran out on their final drive. The only thing that stood out in the Raiders’ 40-point loss was the fact that they didn’t put the ball in their own end zone. It’s a pity they didn’t, because they would have been the winners on this one.

In terms of the big game, the Raiders were out-gained by a hefty 277 yards to the Patriots’ 238. Interestingly, the Patriots topped the Gators by scoring three of the five most points in the first half.

The Raiders’ big play of the day, however, was the aforementioned-mimic-moment-moment, which was the passing of a pigskin down the middle of the field. The Greyhounds drove down to the West’s five-yard line with two penalties. But the Wildcats stopped the Greyhounds on their first drive. Domonique Thomas lost his mother and two grandparents in a tornado

Several weeks ago, Domonique Thomas was in Laurinburg, N.C., preparing for a game when a tornado struck. He had been traveling to North Carolina to play a college football game. His mother and two grandparents died in the storm. He was devastated when he learned that his mom and grandparents did not survive. The family’s funeral will be held on Saturday at 1 p.m. at Leatherwood Baptist Church. The National Weather Service confirmed that the tornado was an EF-2.

A GoFundMe page was set up to help with the expenses of the Thomas family. It has raised $35,895 as of mid-April. The page was started by a friend of the family. The goal was to raise $25,000, but it was quickly outpaced.

Before the tornado, Thomas had big plans for the future. He dreamed of playing in the NFL. He was also planning to buy homes for his parents. He had spoken with his mom thirty minutes before the storm hit. He was hoping the tornado would move away from North Carolina, but it was headed that direction.

Thomas’ father had recently started a new job in Atlanta. He had no idea that his son’s mom and grandparents had died. In the aftermath of the tragedy, many in the community were encouraging him to stay in school. However, he had to make a decision. He decided to go back to Kentucky to finish his football season.

In the days following the tornado, Domonique’s sister underwent surgery for injuries she sustained during the storm. She is now stronger every day. The funeral arrangements for the Thomas family will take place on Saturday at 1 p.m.. at Leatherwood Baptist Church. The funeral will be attended by family, friends, and teammates.

The tragedy has affected the entire community of Ohatchee, and many are supporting Domonique and his family. He has lost three family members, and his dream of playing in the NFL and buying homes for his parents was destroyed. He will return to Kentucky in the coming weeks to finish his spring football season.
