Barnesville Lamar County beat Jackson 42-16

Boosted by a generous dollop of talent and a few nip and tucks, Barnesville Lamar County pipped Jackson in the scoreboard wars. Although they could do better in the trenches, they managed to play well enough to make the postseason. They also were the best in their respective conference, which is something they are not prone to doing. They also have a lot of good ol’ boy rivals in the pipeline.

Although they could have used better communicators, they managed to snag a win on the road thanks to their grit. It is no surprise that they have a winning record, but they will need to up their game if they want to win their division.

Bleckley County vs Lamar County live on the NFHS Network

Whether you’re a Bleckley County fan or a Lamar County aficionado, this game should be on your radar screen. The two teams are battling for the title of best overall program in the Texaco Hoop subdivision. The competition is stiff, but the ‘C’ graders have shown some impressive moxie over the years. The biggest obstacle may be the inability of the coaching staff to capitalize on the home field advantage. On the other hand, Lamar County is playing a much more disciplined game. Despite a shaky start to the season, the Cougars have displayed some impressive playmaking skills and are on the verge of a breakthrough season.

Despite the aforementioned challenge, the Texaco hoop will be a memorable affair as usual. The best of the best will be on display this Friday. As for the rest of the season, Lamar County will be the underdogs and you can’t help but root for them. Nevertheless, Bleckley County is likely to be the team to beat with the best of luck. Whether they can overcome the challenge is anybody’s guess.

St. John Bosco vs St. Thomas Aquinas

The two teams played a dramatic fourth quarter in which the score was tied at 24. The game was close for the first half, but in the second half, St. John Bosco had a 3-0 lead. It took the Monarchs 38 seconds to tie the game, but St. Thomas Aquinas knew that the game was coming down to a third and six play at the Monarchs 38-yard line.

The Monarchs will face Bishop Gorman (Las Vegas) on Aug. 19 and 26 in the CIF-Southern Section Division 1 quarterfinals. The winner of this game will host the semifinals next weekend.

Despite the loss, Elijah Brown is now 29-1. He has scored six times this year and has rushed for 374 yards. He was a North Carolina commit.

Considering Lamar County’s prolific rushing attack and the fact that the team hasn’t lost a game in nearly two years, they are going to be a thorn in the side of the Orange Wave. The two teams will square off on the road for the second time this season. Lamar County has a storied track record against tough opponents. They are coming off a 38-20 win over Thomasville. This is their fifth win in a row, a school record.

Lamar County is led by a pair of twin brothers who are committed to Georgia Tech. They have already racked up a handful of first team all-conference honors and are expected to be counted on as defensive backs and linebackers next season.

The Lamar County football team is a stout unit and will likely continue to perform well in the coming weeks. They have already scored more than 40 points in nine games this season and have not allowed more than 20 points in a game in over a decade.

Social Circle vs Lamar County 39-7

Earlier this year, Lamar County and Social Circle squared off in a matchup worthy of a prime time HBO special. The Trojans were looking for their third straight win on the road. While it isn’t the first time the two programs have squared off, it is the first time they have squared off in the name of football.

The Lamar County Trojans will be playing the Social Circle Trojans on Friday, September 8, 2016 at 7:30 p.m. While the score may be the same, the game will be a battle of the titans. Social Circle won their first four games, while Lamar County won their last three. With the win, Social Circle will get into the playoffs for the first time since 2012. Those aforementioned Trojans were the first to take down Barnesville last season, and are now one of only three teams in the state with winning records. Lamar County will have their hands full against a stingy Social Circle defense.

While the Social Circle Trojans aren’t in the same league as the Trojans of old, they’re still a solid bet. Social Circle isn’t going to roll over like a sack of potatoes, but it isn’t going to give up either. The Trojans may have seen their four game win streak snapped, but they’ll be back on the field in no time. The Lamar County Trojans will play the Social Circle Trojans on Friday, September 8. While the Trojans may have had the lame ol’ toes, they’ll have a much harder time containing the aforementioned Trojans.

Lamar County vs Jefferson in the Class AA state quarterfinals

Defending Class AA state champion Jefferson is looking to avenge its loss to Calhoun last year in the state quarterfinals. Jefferson is one of the top teams in the state and has won four straight double-digit games. This week, the Dragons will face a formidable challenge in Lovett.

Jefferson’s run defense will be a major challenge for Lamar County. Lamar County has rushed for over 40 points in 10 of its 12 games. The Trojans have allowed opponents to score only seven points or fewer seven times this season. Lamar County has not lost to an opponent other than Buford since September 2009.

Lamar County has a wing-t offense that can move the ball effectively. They will have to contain Grant Haley’s running attack and their defensive secondary. Haley has a big-time two-way player in FB/DL Gerald Tolbert. He has rushed for over 500 yards with eight touchdowns.

Jefferson quarterback Bryant Shirreffs has offers from Yale and Dartmouth. He also has offers from Georgia Southern. He rushed for 248 yards against Westminster last week. He is also a stellar passer. He completed 2 of 6 passes for 88 yards against Westminster. He threw an 8-yard touchdown pass to T.J. Skelton.

Jefferson led Lamar County 17-14 at halftime. But Lamar County scored six minutes into the second half. They then scored another touchdown with 10 seconds to go. Lamar County took a 1-0 lead on a 17-yard fake field goal by Lance Austin to Ray Lions. Earlier, Lamar County lost a coin flip.
