As far as the school’s athletic program is concerned, the most impressive feat of its sports program is its softball team, which won the Florida Class 7A state championship in 2015. The school’s football program, on the other hand, has won seven state championships since 1960 in football, basketball, and baseball. The school’s football program was a slam dunk in the state’s largest football playoffs, and the J.M. Tate Senior High School Aggies won the state championship in the Class 4A a few years back.

Currently, the Escambia County School District is governed by a five member school board. Three incumbents are up for re-election in August. The winner of the race for District 2 will be determined in a runoff vote on November.

The school board member who won the race in the August primary will serve out the remaining four years of the four-year term.
