During a press conference held at Trussville City Hall Tuesday, Trussville Mayor Buddy Choat said he had spoken to the city’s chief of police about a situation involving a student making threats to school. He said that the police department had no idea when the student had discovered a notebook containing the names of 40 people, including President Donald Trump and former Vice President Joe Biden.
During the press conference, Choat said that the student had made over thirty comments about harming the school before. He emphasized the importance of educating the students about the seriousness of such threats. He said that he would like to have better communication between the school and the city. He said that he hopes that this incident is the first of many that will be addressed.
During a disciplinary hearing held on October 15, 2008, the Trussville Police Department accused officer Kelly Ruroede of numerous charges. These charges included willful violation of rules and regulations, disorderly conduct, conduct unbecoming a police officer, and violation of state law.

The internal investigative report described Ruroede’s non-compliance with department rules and regulations. Ruroede was also accused of lying during a departmental hearing.
After the hearing, Ruroede pleaded guilty to giving false testimony at a departmental hearing to prevent a termination of her employment. She was suspended without pay.
