Despite being a small football team, the Florence Falcons are making a name for themselves as one of the top football teams in the state of Kentucky. With a new coach, a new vision, and new players coming from all over, the Falcons are poised to make a big splash in the state this season.
Defending class aficionados Florence Falcons may have toed the pack in the latest Class B state football championships, but there is still plenty of sexy testosterone strewn about. The best of the bunch will meet up on the field in the big man suit on a Friday night for the final scrimmage. With the exception of a few miscues, the Falcons have been a notch above the pack all season long. It’s time to celebrate. The team is favored to win the coveted Class B state football championship for the second year in a row. With the right mix of talent, the Falcons will be hard pressed to take their crown for the next few weeks. Having said that, if the Falcons can manage to put the pedal to the metal in the coming weeks, we could have a shot at a dynasty in the making. One thing for certain is that the team is well suited for the task, which is what it is all about. A winning season is the best possible way to cap off a stellar senior class career.
Despite having a roster full of first-year players, the Falcons haven’t been this competitive since the team’s inception. During their winningest season in a decade, they have averaged more than a full win per game for the last eight games. In that time, the Falcons have produced five consecutive bowling victories and one undefeated regular season game. They have also topped the state in the last three nonconference games. Having said that, there is no doubt that the upcoming season will be a battle to the finish line. Its best games will be played on the road to the Montana State University campus. Of course, there’s no shortage of rivals to be beat. Aside from the aforementioned aforementioned contenders, there’s a bounty of neophytes to stomp.
During their four game winning streak, the Florence Falcons have been impressive on both sides of the ball. Despite the loss to Jefferson in the regular season finale, they are still in position to claim the Class B state tournament spot.
The Falcons opened the game with a score. Quarterback Patrick Duchien threw for 244 yards and three touchdowns. He also hit William Wagner for a 34-yard touchdown reception.
The Falcons held Jefferson to one field goal and four turnovers. Florence held Jefferson to just 10 points during the first half. The teams traded interceptions on the next two possessions.
The Falcons put together a solid drive in the second quarter. Duchien threw for a 16-yard TD. Pyette ran for a 1-yard TD and 20-yard TD. The Falcons added a two-point conversion for a 14-0 lead.
The Falcons defense kept the Panthers to just one field goal and four turnovers. They forced a fourth-down conversion to keep the score 14-8 at halftime.
In the third quarter, the Falcons offense showed its power. The Falcons scored on a long pass from Duchien to Maki. Levi Posey made big catches for the Falcons on two other occasions.
The Falcons are in position to make a run at the Class B state title with a win over Missoula Loyola on November 19th. The Falcons’ offensive production will be key in Coach Steve Garrett’s club. This year, the Falcons return four starters in the field. Several players have been working hard to perfect their passing game.
The Falcons will host Jefferson in the Class B state semifinals next Saturday. If they win, they will play in the state championship game in Florence. If they lose, they will play Thompson Falls. Ultimately, the Falcons have the chance to win the state title in over forty years.
The Falcons are currently 8-1 in the Class B season. They are coming off a victory over Columbus on Saturday. Their win over Jefferson avenged a loss to the Panthers in the regular season finale. Florence is a part of the Florence City School District.

Florence has won three state titles under Coach Bill Hood. He has a 128-27-12 record. Florence also has two runner-up finishes. The Falcons will play Missoula Loyola for the Class B state title on Saturday.
The Bigfork Vikings lost 42-0 to Loyola Sacred Heart in the Class B state championship game last season. However, the Vikings have been to the state championship game in three of the last four seasons. This year’s team finished with nine wins and three losses. Benn’s Vikings were 9-4 when they made the state playoffs.
Florence Falcons football defeated Jefferson on Saturday, 40-23. Florence’s defense held Jefferson to a field goal in the first half. The Falcons’ defense held Jefferson to 84 yards on the ground in the second half. Jefferson had a good kickoff return at the half.
Florence falcons football is now 9-2. They will play Missoula Loyola in the Class B state championship game on November 19th. The Falcons are one win away from repeating in the state title game. The Falcons will also play their final game at Florence High School. This will be Pat Duchien’s last game as Florence Falcons coach. Pat Duchien has been a coach at Florence High School for nearly a decade. He will now coach his son Patrick Duchien at Florence High School.
