Enterprise Wildcats Football

During the season, the Enterprise Wildcats football team plays an intense game that leaves both fans and players breathless. The field is packed with the best of the best, and the atmosphere is electrifying. A few things to keep in mind while watching the game are: field safety, mascots, and the All-star game.

Field

Despite their two year hiatus, Enterprise High School has a new facility if you are looking for a place to play football. The new facility includes a state of the art indoor hitting facility as well as new fields, a new stadium and a revamped sports complex. There are also several new sports programs including lacrosse, cheerleading and golf. These new facilities are in good hands and will continue to be a welcome addition to the Enterprise community.

Enterprise boasts an enrollment of over 2,200 students. The school has 16 varsity sports and many of these teams will participate in the Alabama state championships. The football program is led by head coach David Combs and assistant coaches Brystan Sessions and Chris Lewis. This past season, Enterprise won two games in a row and is looking to recapture the momentum of last season. Enterprise boasts a talented set of running backs and quarterbacks. It will be interesting to see how they stack up against a quality opponent in the upcoming season.

Enterprise High School is a public school and part of the Enterprise City School District. The field for the Wildcats is a mere three acres in size. The new facility was a two year endeavor, with the state of the art facility opening this Thursday, April 25th. Enterprise High School will use this new facility to host several games in the coming years. The most notable games will be against rivals Fairhope and Shasta High School. The varsity Wildcats will kick off the season with a home game against defending state champion Shasta on Friday, September 6th. In other news, a new class of student athletes will be welcomed to the campus as incoming freshman.

Safety policy

Considering the plethora of new high schools opening up in our fair city of Hemet, California, the safety of our students and staff is of paramount importance. So it makes sense to implement a safety minded approach to a game day event. The best way to implement such a plan is to proactively inform parents and students of the latest safety related improvements and enhancements. A brief survey of parents, students and staff revealed that many have been unaware of the most recent changes. One of the most significant changes is the lowering of the minimum age for home games. The change was prompted by parent requests for a safer and more family-friendly game day environment.

In addition to a more family friendly game day environment, the district is also updating the athletic facilities by installing new turf and other ad hoc amenities. Some of the more glam offerings include an all-weather batting cage, turf maintenance program, turf and turf repair services and a state-of-the-art fieldhouse complete with locker rooms, concessions and training facilities. To make the experience more memorable, the district has also implemented an improved scoreboard layout and new signage to the tune of over $100,000. The latest upgrades are a welcome improvement for fans who have not yet had the pleasure of experiencing the new facilities. Hopefully the new upgrades will help improve student and parent engagement.

All-star game

During the summer, athletes from local high schools are preparing to show off their skills in the upcoming 2022 All-Star game. The game will feature the top 2022 graduates from local high schools. The players will compete on the last High School competition before they go to college.

This year’s game will feature two 37-member teams of 2023 seniors. Athletes will compete for the title of best player in the region. The teams will be selected through nominations submitted by member schools of the Alabama High School Athletic Directors and Coaches Association.

The South Team will feature Mykel Johnson, a wide receiver at Nashville High School. Bruce Reeder, a wide receiver at Carbondale High School, will also play for the South. The North Team will feature Cade Creel, a quarterback at Fairhope High School. The players are a mix of Section III and Section IV.

Emmanuel Henderson, a star running back at Geneva County, is not playing in this year’s All-Star game. He will also be playing in the Under Armour All-American game in Orlando on January 2. He is considered the nation’s top high school running back by the 247sports composite ranking.

Jack Hayes, a quarterback at Piedmont, is defending Class 3A state champion. He also became the AHSAA’s all-time leading passer this season. He closed the regular season with four passing touchdowns and 470 total yards. He also rushed for two touchdowns in last week’s win over Sylacauga. He finished the season with 660 rushing yards on 65 carries. He earned Southeast Conference All-Star honors.

Jack Hayes is one of the toughest pound-for-pound players on this list. He also was a two-time Enterprise All-Scholastic in basketball. He also earned two South Shore League All-Star honors. He was the league’s Sullivan Division Player of the Year. He finished his career with 36 total touchdowns.

The imposing 6-foot-4, 225-pound senior defensive end is a two-time Enterprise All-Scholastic. He made 62 career catches for 950 yards and nine touchdowns. He also was captain of the team. He also put the finishing touches on a stellar career by finishing with five interceptions.

Team mascot

Several Inland Empire school districts are now facing similar questions about team mascots. The Alvord school district has set up a task force to discuss Native American mascots and make recommendations to the school board. The task force is chaired by Norte Vista Principal Jason Marquez and has met twice so far in the school year.

Port Neches-Groves ISD is one of the many schools in the state that has had its mascot challenged. A number of calls for change have been made to the school system, including the South Texas Chapter of the Indigenous Peoples Movement, which sent formal letters to schools scheduled to play Port Neches-Groves. This has resulted in invitations to the school being sent to coaches and administrators on the schools’ websites. The district has not changed its mascot since March, despite calls for change from activists and members of the public.

A number of Inland Empire school systems have removed Native American themed mascots from their school systems in the past two decades. The Cleveland Indians had long-simmering controversy over their team name. After years of discussion, the Cleveland Indians changed their name to the Cleveland Guardians in 2022. Massillon Washington High School also received an exemption from the law so they could continue using a live tiger cub as their team mascot. In September, the governor of California, Gavin Newsom, signed a law encouraging school districts to form Indian Education Task Forces.

The Miami Indian tribe of northeast Ohio claimed to honor the Redskins’ mascot. However, they did not wear the headdress that is seen on the statue. The tribe’s representatives attended a Fort Loramie school board meeting in October to plead their case. However, they learned that the headdress on the statue was not worn by the Miami tribe. A task force made up of representatives from the Miami Indian tribe, the Alvord school district, and the Code of People Law is working to develop a new bill.

Despite the call for change, the Port Neches-Groves ISD’s mascot has gained national attention. A number of activists and members of the public have spoken out in favor of changing the district’s mascot, citing its “culturally appropriated” traditions as perpetuating racism, genocide, and other issues.
