It also ranks as one of the top 10 schools in the state in terms of graduation and performance on state required tests. Among the athletics program, Cordova boasts a football team that had a 3 percent concussion rate in 2015. Fortunately, this does not mean the program has to deal with the specter of a mediocre season.

While the football season is still a ways off, the team has already started its practice routines. There are seven programs, including the varsity, and practice times may vary from team to team. Athlete Athletes Athletes who graduated from Cordova High School include Seneca Wallace, who was drafted by the San Francisco 49ers in the fourth round of the 2003 NFL Draft. Wallace also played for the Green Bay Packers and Seattle Seahawks. He was a member of the Optimist All Stars. In addition to his pro football career, Wallace also played on the college level for Sacramento City College and Jesuit. He later transferred to Iowa State for his junior and senior seasons.

Cordova basketball had a wonderful year. The Lady Lancers won six league championships and advanced to the Section Championship. They also went undefeated for the first time in school history. They defeated Summerville by 14-13 in the St. Mary’s gym on November 26.

In addition to winning six league championships, the Lady Lancers advanced to the Section Championship, becoming the first girls basketball team to go undefeated in Cordova high school history. Cordova’s first Section Championship in basketball came in the 1984 season, when the Lady Lancers went 32-1.

Cordova will also have the honor of inducting several athletes and coaches into the Rancho Cordova Sports Hall of Fame in 2022. The Rancho Cordova Sports Hall of Fame will recognize notable athletic accomplishments and high standards of character. The induction ceremony will take place on September 10, 2022, at the Rancho Cordova City Hall.

In football, the Yellow Jackets have a chance to keep their 6A playoff spot. They lost to East Union (Manteca) by 51-7 in the first round of the Division 4 CIF SJS playoffs. However, they are coming off a loss to Johnson in conference by 60-15. They are ranked fourth in the state in 6A. They will play their first playoff game since 2002.

Cordova High has been blessed with some incredible athletes over the years. Athlete Goldman is a descendant of Rancho Cordova’s pioneer family and is one of the top runners in the state. She competed in the Junior Olympics, was a member of the Cordova Dusters at AAU track meets, and broke several records. During her senior year, she compiled a 13-1 record with 1.04 ERA. She also won Player of the Year honors from the Sacramento Bee.
