During his tenure at Cherokee High, Coach Brian Dameron has led the Chargers to a few notable achievements. The best was a 52-6 opening day victory over Mays in the Class A state championship game. Coach Dameron’s tenure as head coach will soon come to an end. According to the Cherokee Tribune, Dameron announced his departure to Superintendent Frank Petruzielo on Friday afternoon. As for the future of the Chargers, Dameron will be replaced by Jeremy Adams, a Cherokee High alum who will be joining Dameron in his next incarnation as athletic director. The athletic director will also be responsible for hiring and retaining a coaching staff to take the Chargers to their next level.
While Dameron may be gone, Coach Josh Shaw is ready to lead the Chargers into the playoffs. Shaw will be aided in his endeavors by a strong senior class, including quarterback AJ Swann, who has already threw for three touchdowns in this year’s opening round of the playoffs. His defense will also be bolstered by a veteran linebacker. This team is a model of grit and discipline. The team will be looking to bounce back from a disappointing loss last week in the Class AAA state championship game. The Warriors also have a non-region game against the Rome Wolves on the books.
During the off-season, Dameron will likely be joined by his assistant coaches, including his son, Cole Sackman, who will likely be the star of the Grizzlies defense. The Grizzlies will also have a new assistant coach in the form of David Dyer, a former player who is no stranger to the football field.

Despite the fact that the Cherokee County Warriors missed the state championship last season, they have made their presence known this season. The team has a potent offense, and plenty of playmakers on both sides of the ball.
The Cherokee County Warriors started out the season as the number two team in Class 4A. The team defeated Fayette County, Ashville, and Locust Fork, before beating Jacksonville 24-12. They were also able to advance to the second round of the 4A State Playoffs.
Despite missing several of its most important seniors, the Warriors have plenty of returning playmakers on both sides of the ball. Coty Blanchard has rushed for 2,381 yards and 38 touchdowns this season, and he is just one of the players that makes the team special. The team also has some talented wide receivers.
