Midland High is in the thick of the Saginaw Valley League (SVL) and will face off against a handful of tough teams. The biggest question mark is who will be the new face of the program. The school has had a winning record for 37 years and a number of players have graduated, including a good chunk of the offensive line. The key to success will be the development of the defensive and offensive lines.
The varsity has 32 players on the varsity including a bevy of seniors. The team will play its first two games of the season in Grand Rapids against Traverse City West and San Angelo Central. A win over a solid Walled Lake Western team should be the icing on the cake. The team will also have the honour of playing Abilene High in its first district game since the 2015 season.
The team will make the short trip to Abilene on October 29 and will finish the regular season in the friendly confines of Saginaw on November 3. Despite a few setbacks in the early going, the Bulldogs have a strong chance of making the playoffs. A solid year from the players at all levels should put them in the driver’s seat. The SVL’s top teams include Grand Rapids Christian, Flint Powers, Midland Dow, Traverse City West, and Flint Carman-Ainsworth.
During the 2013 season, the Morgan State football schedule will include four home games, one of which is the 33rd Annual Whitney Young Classic against Hampton.
