Cedar Bluff Tigers Football Plays Meek in Class 1A State Playoffs

During the week of the Class 1A State Playoffs, the Meek Tigers return to Cedar Bluff to face Spring Garden. In a game reminiscent of the 1962 state championship, Meek was able to pull off a win with the help of a defense that forced the ball over on downs on the following possession.

Earlier this summer, Cedar Bluff High School honored the state champions of 1962. This team had a record of 9-0 and was crowned state champion in class. This team also won the school’s 500th football game. Cedar Bluff football will play Valley Head next week. This team is still close to its members. They had breakfast meetings every month for the past four years.

The offensive line is key to creating holes for running. The offensive line also helps protect passing.

During the team’s nine-year streak, Cedar Bluff had a 41-game winning streak. This streak was only interrupted in the first three games of 1964.

Cedar Bluff advanced to the quarterfinal round of the playoffs last season. This year, the team has a large number of returning starters. Junior quarterback Josh Decker is leading the Tigers. He has completed 8 of 20 passes for 219 yards and two touchdowns. He has rushed for another 21 touchdowns. He has also passed for two 2-point conversions in two games.

The offensive line is also a big part of Cedar Bluff’s success. A couple of weeks ago, Cam Welsh collected 68 yards on six totes. On the final play of the game, Hunter Stallings scored a 15-yard touchdown.

Spring Garden’s defense forced Cedar Bluff to punt seven times. They also held the Tigers to 73 yards rushing. Kerryon Johnson set up a TD with a 65-yard kickoff return.

Spring Garden’s offense had a 21-0 halftime lead. After the game, Chappelle Pope spoke about the offensive line and said he was pleased with it. He also said he was pleased with the way the Panthers took the lead in the second quarter. He said Cedar Bluff recovered a fumble deep in Spring Garden territory in the second quarter. The Panthers scored on their next possession and retook the lead.

Despite a late charge, Cedar Bluff Tigers football failed to overcome Meek Tigers in the Class 1A State Playoffs on Friday night. Cedar Bluff lost 46-6 and fell to 3-8 on the season. Despite their loss, the Tigers are now one of seven state football champions that have advanced to the state playoffs.

Meek High School is a team that has been a dominating force all season long. The Tigers have been the only team in Alabama to start the season with a 4-0 record. After winning their first two games by wide margins, they defeated Cedar Bluff 46-6 on Friday night. Meek is now 1-0 in the Class 1A State Playoffs and will host Cedar Bluff for round two next week.

Meek took a 22-0 lead into the half. The Tigers built their lead by forcing turnovers on downs and creating a hole for running back Cam DEAVER to run through. He ran for a touchdown and ran a two-point conversion. During the third quarter, Meek also took advantage of good field position. They forced Cedar Bluff to punt seven times.

In the fourth quarter, the Tigers took their lead to 38-6 with a touchdown from Aden Green. He caught a pass from Kaden Pack for a 64-yard touchdown with 3:17 remaining. The Tigers added another touchdown with under three minutes to play.

Meek dominated on the ground, averaging nearly 125 yards per game. Connor Bates and Pope both finished with 120 yards on the ground. Pope completed 5-of-8 passes for 120 yards and a touchdown. Connor Bates also scored twice on a pair of runs.

Despite the loss, the Tigers are a good team and are still a worthy opponent for any team.

Pre-selling tickets for Thursday’s game vs. Spring Garden

– Cedar Bluff School will pre-sell football tickets for Thursday’s game against Spring Garden. The Tigers are coming off a 35-18 win over Spring Garden. Cedar Bluff quarterback Josh Decker ran for two touchdowns and completed 13-of-21 passes for 149 yards. Grant Barber caught an 84-yard touchdown pass and also returned a 54-yard punt for a touchdown. The Tigers also scored two defensive touchdowns.

– The Bob Jones Rebels defeated the James Clemens Bulldogs 27-24. Miles Strickland had two rushing touchdowns and also caught a 98-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Noah Lowery. Miles Strickland also scored on a 54-yard punt return. DeVin Kimbrough completed a 7-yard touchdown pass on fourth down in the fourth quarter. The Rebels are also in position to claim a Class 4A playoff spot.

– In a 57-22 win over Coosa Christian, DEVIN LEPS ran for 180 yards and scored on runs of 65, 15, 9, 10, and 2 yards. The Rebels also received 142 yards on 20 carries from Ivory Starr. The Rebels were also led by quarterback RAMSEY RIGBY, who completed 17-of-22 passes for 313 yards. Other Rebels who ran for touchdowns were QUINTON DOWNey, who had 184 yards rushing on 15 carries; and GARRETT APPLING, who rushed for 150 yards on 30 carries.
