Among the nine high schools in Muscogee County, Carver STEM High School stands out as the most technologically advanced. The school has 99 percent minority enrollment, a 13 percent AP participation rate, and boasts one of the state’s largest CTAE programs. The school has a number of upcoming events on the horizon including a football shindig, a high school football tournament, and a student-run science fair.

Carver’s football team is no stranger to the postseason, having qualified for the state playoffs in four of the last six seasons. Aside from its storied football program, the school boasts a plethora of extracurricular activities, from the varsity golf team to a robotics club. Among its many accolades, the school is the only institution in the county to qualify for the state’s top flight golf tournament. Among the top ranked sports programs, football, baseball and basketball all boast winning records. Carver’s basketball team is one of the best in the state, having finished in the top four in every state competition since 2009. In fact, the number of cheerleaders on the school’s roster is the highest in the state, and the program’s record is the best in Georgia, as well. During basketball season, Carver is also a fixture in the state’s top tier, having finished atop the state’s top three in the conference standings the past four years. State title game

Several local schools are making their way to the GHSA state championship game on Friday. Six teams will compete for a title, including a third straight for Cedar Grove. Other local teams are competing in region games, with the finals at Georgia State University’s Center Parc Stadium. The finals will include rematches of regular season region games.

The Carver Tigers and the Savannah Benedictine Cadets are battling for the Class 4A title. Carver is coming off a runner-up finish in Class 4A last season. The Tigers have played together since middle school. The Cadets won the Class 2A title in 2014 and 2016.

The Tigers are looking for their first state title since 2012. Sandy Creek is also looking for its first. They defeated Coahulla Creek 70-14. They beat Stephens County 20-7.
