Currently, there are a lot of exciting things happening in the Bob Jones High School football program. Not only does the team have some talented players, but they also have some excellent coaches. One of the best coaches in the state is Stephen Baker, and he has the team in a great position to win the state championship in the fall.
Several weeks ago, Bob Jones High School quarterback Rayshawn Hardy showed off his skills in a big win over rival Sparkman. Hardy finished the week with a 1,682 yard passing game and 12 touchdowns, earning him the AHSAA Spotlight for the week.
Hardy’s performance was just one of several outstanding efforts seen in Week 7. Other impressive efforts included Bryson Hughes of Guntersville’s 400 yard passing performance, Evan Taylor of Guntersville’s tie for the record, and Alex Mason’s two kickoff returns for touchdowns.
The Patriots were off to a great start with Hardy scoring on a 4-yard run with 6:00 left in the first quarter. They were up 13-7 by the end of the first quarter, but the Lions responded with a score of their own. After a field goal by Collin Rogers, the Lions led 16-14 at halftime.
Bob Jones started the second half with a drive that ended in a Jay’Shon Ridgle touchdown. It was the first of three scores in the quarter. Hardy scored another touchdown when he connected with Quenton Hubbard for an 83 yard pass play. Hardy has big receivers to throw to, but his rushing attack also helped Bob Jones maintain a solid lead.

Against the Grissom Black Bears, Bob Jones High School football was led by dual threat quarterback Ray Hardy. He had 10 carries for 141 yards and a touchdown, while also throwing a 75-yard touchdown pass. He added a two-point conversion run.
Bob Jones opened the game with a 42-yard touchdown pass from Hardy to Malachi Foster. The first quarter ended with Florence taking a 28-14 lead. But Bob Jones cut the deficit to 28-14 in the second half. Hardy then ran for a touchdown and completed two clutch passes to Quenton Hubbard and Malachi Foster. Bob Jones’ defense held Grissom under 100 yards of total offense, while also holding Grissom’s two quarterbacks to under 100 yards passing.
Bob Jones tacked on a seven-yard run from Rowan Jones. After the drive ended, Florence had possession of the ball with less than five minutes to play. However, Glover ran three times for a go-ahead field goal. The score proved to be the game-winner.
The Black Bears improved to 5-0 in Region 4 with two games left on the schedule. Bob Jones’ defense held Grissom to under 100 yards of total offense, while also rushing for 435 yards. Bob Jones’ defense held Grissom scoreless in the third quarter.
Florence tallied 463 total yards in the game. Bob Jones’ defense held Grissom’s two quarterbacks under 100 yards passing, while also rushing for 59 yards. Bob Jones switched from the 30-yard line to the Falcons’ 23-yard line.
Bob Jones High School football has won four straight games against the Florence Falcons. However, the Patriots have lost six games by more than 30 points since 2000. The Patriots are currently 5-2 in Class 7A, Region 4. They host Huntsville (4-2, 3-1) on Saturday in Region 4. Bob Jones has been ranked in the Class 7A preseason rankings.
During the past decade, Bob Jones High School has been a powerhouse in athletics. The school has been named one of the top 10 high schools in the state for 10 consecutive years. In addition to its athletics, the school has seen a tremendous rise in enrollment.
