Having just celebrated their first win of the season, the Boaz Pirates football team are looking to keep the momentum going. As a result, they have recruited some new faces to help them get better.

Russellville Golden Tigers

RUSSELLVILLE – The Russellville Golden Tigers took a 28-3 lead into the second quarter, but Boaz rallied to tie it up at 49-10 on a two-yard touchdown run by Tristan Childers. It was the only score of the second half. After Boaz’s kickoff was blocked, Russellville took the ball and scored on three plays. Recent successes

During the past two seasons, the Boaz Pirates football team made a number of playoff appearances. In fact, the Pirates have made seven playoff appearances in the last 10 years. Currently, the team is ranked as the fourth seed in the Class 5A, Region 7 playoffs. In order to qualify for the playoffs, the Pirates must win their final two regular season games. On November 4, they will travel to Russellville to take on the Region 8 champion.

The Pirates finished their regular season as the runner up in Area 13. In fact, they topped Bishop McGuinness by 40 points on January 31. In addition, the Pirates defeated Marshall County rival Douglas 37-0.

This year’s team has some impressive players. Among them are redshirt freshman quarterbacks Luke Wilson and Jefferson Boaz, along with redshirt freshman quarterbacks Wayne Knight and Vinessa Shaw. Also, rising West senior Adam Cummings and Havelock standout Andrew Frazier worked with the Boaz quarterbacks at the camp.

The Pirates finished the season averaging 23.9 points per game. They also had 3.1 assists and 2.0 steals. Their rushing attack was impressive. Boaz rushed the ball 63 times for 466 yards and 17 touchdowns. They also had 1.6 blocks each time out.

In addition to rushing the ball, Boaz was also very successful in the passing game. Their quarterbacks completed 74.2% of their passes, and their receivers had eight touchdowns. In addition, they also racked up five interceptions. They were also 16-for-27 from the field (59%).
