Bibb County Loses to Jacksonville Golden Eagles

jacksonville golden eagles

Bibb County’s football season ended last night with a loss against the Jacksonville Golden Eagles. Quarterback Jim Ogle had an impressive performance, but the offense was held in check. Walter Taylor III led the offense and helped lead the Golden Eagles to a win.

Quarterback Jim Ogle

During his 22-year career at Johns Hopkins University, Jim Ogle has established his Gamecocks as one of the best running attacks in the FCS. His offense has ranked among the top 12 nationally in rushing the past five years and has amassed more than 3,000 rushing yards. Ogle’s offense averaged over 414.9 yards against conference opponents in 2016, and his team was ranked 14th nationally in passing. In 2017, Roc Thomas was an All-American in Ogle’s backfield.

Jacksonville’s first score came on a 77-yard kickoff return by Will Fisher. Jacksonville’s defense held ACA to minus two yards in the second half. The Golden Eagles regained the lead with a 35-yard run by Taj Morris.

Then, with 16 seconds left, Jim Ogle hit Ky’dric Fisher for a 25-yard touchdown. Mason Terrell’s extra point made the score 21-14. Jacksonville finished the game with 511 yards.

Jacksonville’s offense only managed one offensive drive in the second half. Ogle completed eight of 10 passes in the second half for 123 yards. The Golden Eagles had three incompletions.

Jacksonville finished the first half with 126 yards. Will Turner finished the game with 211 rushing yards on 32 carries. Taj Morris finished with 99 yards on 13 carries.

In the second half, Jacksonville had a promising look at fourth-and-one at the Choctaws’ 1 yard line. A questionable pass interference call set up the first down at the Choctaws’ 10 yard line. But a tackle from behind at the 23-yard line halted the play.

In the third quarter, Jacksonville managed two first downs. But Ogle misfired on eight of nine pass attempts. He finished the game with a 148.8 pass efficiency rating.

The Choctaws were hoping that the Jacksonville offense could produce more explosive plays in the second half. But the Golden Eagles squandered a chance to win the game. The Choctaws only had three passing attempts in the second half, and one of them was a turnover. The Choctaws also rushed for minus one yard in the second half.

Jim Ogle’s son, Ray Ogle, is a rising sophomore at Jacksonville State University. He threw for 2,224 yards and 18 touchdowns last season. He also finished with honorable mention all-state recognition. He has also landed scholarship offers from UAB and Troy.

Offense led by Walter Taylor III

Whether you consider Walter Taylor III’s performance with the Aggies the best or the worst, he has certainly made an impression on the state of Alabama. In the past year, he has been named Class 4A back of the year, has committed to Vanderbilt and compiled more than 3,400 yards and 40 touchdowns on the ground. During his career, Taylor has attended camps at Auburn, Florida State and other colleges.

Although Taylor’s performance has been a bit underwhelming, his ‘hoarding’ of accolades makes him a legitimate player to watch in the coming years. He was also one of only two players in the state to be a member of the Alabama Sports Writers Association’s all-time top 10 in passing yards, rushing yards, touchdowns and receptions.

Taylor’s performance notwithstanding, the Jaguars still managed to be a bit of a disaster. They finished in the bottom half of the league in three major categories, including red zone efficiency, third-down conversions and turnovers.

The team had seven plays for more than 40 yards, while its pass defense was also one of the worst in the league. The Jaguars also threw an interception in the red zone.

The team’s offense was led by 6-foot-5, 220-pound Walter Taylor III, who completed 10 of 16 passes for 307 yards and threw two TDs in the win over the Clarke County Cougars. Taylor is also the only player on the team to account for 11 touchdowns this season. He also has attended instructional summer camps at Auburn, Florida State and other schools. He also has a slew of other awards to his credit, including AHSAA Prep Football Spotlight this week.

He also had a couple of big plays, including a 58-yard ‘Hail Mary’ pass to Nelson Agholor, the largest in a single play in Jackson High School history. Taylor was also named the ‘best back’ in Alabama’s Class 4A by the Alabama Sports Writers Association. He also took home the AHSAA Prep Football trophy for the best performance in the state. The AHSAA has a long tradition of rewarding the best players in the state, and Taylor is certainly no exception.

Bibb County’s season comes to an end

Bibb County’s Golden Eagles season came to an end in the first round of the state playoffs, but not before they took home the ring. They are now 7-4 and have a shot at advancing to the semi-finals.

In the playoffs, it’s often the little things that count. That’s why the Bibb County Golden Eagles were able to find the shortest route to the state championship, despite the fact that the state title is still in the hands of the Catholic Montgomery Eagles. The Bibb County High School athletic department is getting a new name and a new dress code, but they will keep the traditions that have earned them their title as the most successful high school in Alabama.

One of the best high school games in years rolled on the field. Bibb County’s Golden Eagles got off to a slow start, allowing Jacksonville to score a 65-yard touchdown pass in the first quarter. The ACA Patriots were not far behind, however, and held the visitors to only 232 yards on 10 first downs.

One of the game’s most impressive moments occurred with just under two minutes left in the fourth quarter. A questionable pass interference call set the Choctaws up at their own 10-yard line. A 41-yard breakaway run by Letrell Morrison helped move the chains. But the Bibb County defense failed to convert the ensuing set of downs, allowing Jacksonville to take the lead with just over two minutes left.

The Bibb County Golden Eagles’ biggest question mark came in the third quarter, when they had to overcome a three-point deficit with just over eight minutes left in the game. The Golden Eagles managed to scrounge up a field goal, but it was not enough to make the final score respectable. The Golden Eagles had a decent chance at tying the game with just over two minutes left, but a failed onside kick attempt put the score at 21-21. This was the first time this season the Eagles failed to convert the ensuing set of four downs.

The Bibb County Golden Eagles will now look to improve on their record, while the Jacksonville Golden Eagles are aiming for a second round matchup against the Catholic Montgomery Eagles.
