Bibb County’s football program has a long tradition of success. Its team has won a number of major games, including the All-Star Bowl. It also features some of the state’s top players.

Game day

Bibb County football kicked off Week 7 of the 2022 high school season with a 49-6 win over Hale County. The Choctaws jumped out to a 35-0 lead with 7:35 left in the half. After a 76-yard drive, the Choctaws scored with a three-yard touchdown run from Jaison Taylor.

Hale County, meanwhile, went three-out on its first drive. After a fumble, the Wildcats were stalled at the 10-yard line. The ball was snapped over the head of quarterback John Zinnerman and Bibb County’s Colby Collums recovered it. Bibb County then turned to running back Jeremiah Jones to milk the clock. On the next drive, the Choctaws ran for a touchdown.

The Wildcats responded with a long drive of their own, but the Choctaws stopped the drive with a penalty. Hale County went on to score an 11-yard touchdown run.

Bibb County, meanwhile, responded with a nine-play, 76-yard drive. Quarterback John Downs found Ethan McMillan for a 49-yard touchdown pass. Downs then handed the ball off to Taylor for a second touchdown. Bibb County scored three more touchdowns on its next two drives.

The Choctaws then forced Antwain Zinnerman to throw the ball away. Bibb County scored the third touchdown with 8:27 left in the half.

Hale County fell to 2-4 on the season. Bibb County will travel to Montevallo next week. Hale County will play Dallas County on the road next week.

Bibb County will also be implementing a new safety plan for the upcoming football season. Metal detectors will be installed at football games. Fans will be required to wear masks at all times inside and outside the venue, including on the bus. Fans will also be asked to wash their hands before and after attending a game.

Bibb County will have a clear bag policy in place. Fans will be limited to 25% occupancy. The stadium will have signs throughout the stadium. There will also be a hand sanitizer available in each sideline. There will also be a mask worn by concession stand workers. In addition to the mask, fans will also be asked to wash their hands before attending a game.

Deputy Johnson’s badge number

Bibb County High School Football will wear the “706” badge number of Deputy Brad Johnson, who was shot in the line of duty. His death has prompted departments across the state to offer their support.

A public visitation will begin at 9 a.m., followed by a funeral service. A procession will travel from the Student Activity Center at the University of Montevallo, across Alabama Highway 25, to Centreville. A private burial will follow. Residents are encouraged to line the route, as it will be an emotional and moving occasion.

Deputy Johnson was 32 years old and was engaged to be married. He served in law enforcement for several years. He became interested in law enforcement after he was asked to be a Student Resource Officer for Bibb County High School. He offered to do the job for free.

Austin Patrick Hall was the driver of a stolen vehicle that led authorities on a chase. Hall fired shots at deputies and was shot and killed by Deputy Johnson. A convicted felon, Hall had a lengthy criminal history and was believed to have exited the stolen vehicle. Hall’s initial court appearance will be Friday. He faces three Capital Murder charges. He will also be charged with Capital Murder – Fired from a Vehicle and Capital Murder – Vehicle from Outside.

The Bibb County Sheriff’s Department has set up a memorial fund on Facebook to accept donations. In addition, the Bibb County Commission office is accepting donations for the memorial fund. These donations will help pay for a funeral service and an internment of Deputy Johnson’s remains.

Bibb County Police Chief Mike Nichols hopes the unity of the Bibb County first responders will continue. Sheriff Wade thanked the law enforcement community, ALEA, and law enforcement across the country for the support he has received. He said he has felt hurt and angry after the shooting, but he is hopeful that no one else has to suffer through what he has.

Bibb County High School will also display Deputy Johnson’s badge number on their football helmets. The school’s assistant principal also serves as the school’s football coach. In addition, the school’s volleyball team will wear “706” stickers on their helmets during the first game of the season against Chilton County.

The All-Star Bowl

Bibb County football teams will take on Houston County in the All-Star Bowl on December 21, 2019. The game will be held at the Ed Defore Sports Complex, 2851 Heath Road, Macon, Ga. Tickets are $10 and will go towards scholarships for Bibb County students. The game will start at 1 p.m. The game will be televised over the AHSAA TV Network.

The All-Star Bowl was created by the Bibb County School District in partnership with the Houston County School District. The event will feature the top players from both counties in football, as well as various coaches. Tickets are $10 at the gate. All proceeds from the game will go towards scholarships for students.

The Bibb County team will be led by Westside’s Spoon Risper. He’s a former Bibb County player and assistant coach. He’s also a coach at Helena High School. His combined career record is 69-30. He’s also the head coach for the Class 6A Region 3 championship. He’s got a 7-2 record this season.

The South team includes a number of area players. It’s also made up of Houston County programs like Southwest and Northside. Some of the players on the roster include Jalyn Daniels, Seawell McKee, and Myles Butler. Some of the other players include Zach Pyron of Pinson Valley, Patrick Sullivan Jr. of Elba, and Jacob Foster of Greenville.

The North team is headed by Richie Busby of Helena High School. He’s had a banner season with the Aggies, going 7-2. He’s also got a great young quarterback in Tanner Bailey of Gordo. The South team includes Carver-Montgomery’s Marcus Gardner and Jason Franklin. He’s got a great group of coaches too.

The South’s defense also turned in a great performance, as Seawell McKee finished as their second-leading tackler this season. He also alternates between outside linebacker and secondary for the Wildcats. He’s also a tight end. He’s a three-year starter and one of the top tacklers in the state. He’s also been selected to play in the Pro Bowl in both football and flag football. He’s also an honorary life member of the Georgia Athletic Coaches Association.
