Throughout the past few years, the Auburn Tigers football team has had their fair share of ups and downs, but now they are on the verge of a big season. The team is expected to be one of the top teams in the nation, and they will be facing some tough competition in the upcoming season.
Despite a winless streak of six games against Alabama, Georgia has become one of the most improved teams in the country. The Bulldogs have a powerful defense and two of the best running backs in the country. They are also ranked second in the nation in pass defense.
Georgia is going after its first national title since 1980. The Bulldogs are also looking to prove they are a dominant force in the SEC. They have not faced the likes of Alabama or Michigan yet. This is the toughest opponent they have faced so far.
The Alabama defense is considered one of the best in the country. During the season, the Crimson Tide recorded 52 sacks, which is tied for the most in the nation.
Georgia’s front seven is anchored by two first-team All-America selections. LB Nakobe Dean and DT Lewis Cine have sacked quarterbacks four times. These two players combined for 16 tackles in the SEC championship game.
The Alabama secondary is led by Jordan Battle with three interceptions. The unit has recorded 15 interceptions during the season.
The Alabama offensive line was not as good as it was in the semifinals. The offensive line gave up two sacks and three tackles for loss. The line also allowed four quarterback hurries.
The Georgia defense was excellent against everyone but Alabama. They have not allowed more than 20 points in a game during the SEC season. They have been especially good against offenses in the red zone. Against Alabama, Georgia allowed only one turnover and one punt.
The Alabama offense tacked on 421 yards and three touchdowns through the air. Georgia’s offense had little to show until the end of the third quarter. They only produced one turnover and a field goal. However, Alabama’s offense did have a field goal in the third quarter.
The Crimson Tide’s biggest threat is their run game. The Bulldogs have allowed 20+ points in a game only five times this season. The Bulldogs are the top FBS scoring defense at 9.6 points per game.
The Alabama-Georgia game will feature two of the best coaches in college football. Alabama head coach Nick Saban and Georgia head coach Kirby Smart will meet for the first time in 37 days. The two will try to reclaim the national title they lost in Atlanta back in December.
During the regular season, Auburn basketball had the best season in the program’s history. The Tigers won their second SEC regular-season championship in the last five years and achieved the highest ranking ever in the AP Poll. Auburn is also the first team to finish the season undefeated at home.
Auburn volleyball earned a spot in the NCAA Tournament for the second time in program history. Coach Bruce Pearl’s team finished in the Midwest Regional and earned a two seed. Akasha Anderson was named an All-SEC performer after registering 400 kills this season.
The Tigers’ only loss this season came in double overtime to UConn in the Bahamas. Auburn defeated Alabama twice and Kentucky twice.
Bruce Pearl has had tremendous success with his team this season. This is the first time Auburn has finished a season undefeated at home and the program’s first outright SEC title since 1999.
Auburn is currently ranked second in the AP poll. Auburn’s two seed in the NCAA Tournament is the highest in 23 years. It also is one of only six SEC teams to make the field of 68.
Auburn will play Miami in the Round of 32. If Auburn advances to the Sweet 16, it will play in Chicago. The Tigers are one of only eight teams that have not lost outside of the first round. The Tigers are 5-0 on the road this season.
Auburn’s success this season came from finding impact players in the transfer portal during the off-season. Four of the team’s five leading minute-getters are transfers. These players, including Jabari Smith, Wendell Green Jr., and Zep Jasper, all transferred from other smaller schools.
Auburn’s success this season came in part from its bench production. The Tigers’ bench scored 19 points in Saturday’s win against Murray State. The Tigers have a young team that is confident.
During the first two months of the season, Auburn’s bench production averaged fewer than 10 points per game. This has been a domino effect. However, the Tigers’ bench has come on strong as the season has progressed.
During the last four weeks, Auburn quarterbacks have thrown touchdown passes and run for scores. While this was the case for Auburn in games against Western Kentucky and Missouri, the Auburn offense failed to score in games against LSU and Mississippi State. That’s not a good sign for an Auburn offense that has struggled to score in high-stakes games under coach Bryan Harsin.
In the first quarter, Stetson Bennett completed his first pass of more than 20 yards. That was the first of three touchdown passes he would throw in the game. He finished the drive 5-of-6 passing for 65 yards.
The Auburn defense forced great situations for the offense in the first half, but did not bend until the third quarter. A botched snap on the third and long, a diving interception by AJ Finley, and an interception on the fourth and goal gave Ole Miss an opportunity to make a touchdown.
On the first play of the fourth quarter, Bennett broke free for a 64-yard touchdown run. He then finished the drive with a perfect 20-yard pass to J’aVarrious Johnson. The extra point by Reichard is good for Alabama 35, Auburn 14.
The rushing game for Alabama was productive, as Damari Alston rushed for a touchdown, and Jarquez Hunter had a touchdown run. However, the passing game wasn’t as good as the rushing game, as Rogers was sacked twice, and fumbled once.
In the second quarter, Tank Bigsby had a 60-yard run, then broke off a 41-yard run. He also ran for a two-yard touchdown. He led the Auburn offense with 179 yards on 20 carries. He showed off his legs a little more than he did last year, but didn’t have many first down runs in Rebel territory.
The first touchdown pass was a 27-yard reception by Traeshon Holden. The second was a 25-yard pass to true freshman Omari Kelly. The third was a seven-yard swing pass by Jaxson Dart to Judkins. The fourth was a 35-yard touchdown pass from Dart to Dayton Wade.
Auburn is in the middle of a five-game losing streak. After winning back-to-back games under Williams, Auburn will travel to Ole Miss on Sunday.
Among the most fierce rivalries in the sport of swimming are those between the Auburn University men’s and women’s teams and the Texas Longhorns. Texas swims in the Southeastern Conference, which is a part of the National Collegiate Athletic Association. Auburn’s men’s and women’s teams have combined for eight NCAA National Titles since 1981, including a title in 1997.
Auburn’s men have won 12 of the last 14 dual meets against Texas, including a win in Austin on January 9. Auburn’s women, on the other hand, have won the series three out of the last four years. Auburn’s last loss to Texas came in 2001.
Texas, on the other hand, has won more NCAA titles than any other program since 1978. The Longhorns have also produced a lot of All-Americans, including 32 last year. A number of the swimmers are returning, including Gretchen Jaques and Michael Young. The Longhorns will also be hosting new butterfly recruit Joseph Schooling.
The two teams recently began an annual series. LSU’s women recently posted a meet-record time in the 200-medley relay. The Tigers also took down Alabama in a dual meet.
In the next two meets, the LSU swimming teams will face SEC opponents. LSU will also travel to Dallas for the SMU Classic. They will close the dual meet slate against Texas A&M.
Texas is a perennial power in SEC swimming. The Longhorns have won the conference championship 35 straight years. The team is also ranked ninth in the national rankings. This year’s team features eight All-Americans, including four in the breaststroke events.
Auburn’s men are 3-2 this season. Their last dual-meet loss was against Texas in 2001. They will be back in action October 10 against Florida. The Tigers will then host the SEC’s national powers in Florida and Texas. This meet promises to be a close one.
Auburn’s women’s team has also quietly swept the season’s meets. They have defeated Indiana, Notre Dame and Alabama. They also earned All-America honors at the NCAA Championships. The women won the 200-yard medley relay at the NCAA Championships.
