During the past couple of years, the Ardmore Tigers football team has seen several players to make an impact on the team. Some of these players include Cal Swanson, Shedrick Jones, Eric Fields, and Derick Peters.
Having played a couple of years on the offensive line, Shedrick Jones knows what it takes to make a successful team. Jones’ leadership and physicality make him an essential member of the Ardmore Tigers’ front line. He has made football a life-long passion and he knows the qualities he needs to contribute to a winning team.
Shedrick Jones has been a starter at right tackle for the Tigers the past two seasons. He is the team’s highest-graded offensive lineman at the position. Jones has set goals for his senior year and knows what he will need to be successful. He values the support from his teammates and the encouragement from others.
Jones is the top-rated right tackle in the state. He also has experience playing in the Derek Mason defensive line. His playmaking ability and leadership make him a valuable player on a team that has the potential to be one of the best in Class 5A.
Ardmore will open its 5A-1 season with a game at Noble. The Tigers were a second-round tournament opponent for Carl Albert last season. Ardmore will have the chance to be the district favorite this season. They are also a team that can put up big numbers every week this season.
El Reno has had an edge over Ardmore the past two seasons. They will be looking to limit the Tigers’ possessions and try to run the ball. They will also want to keep Ardmore’s potent offense off the field.
Ardmore and El Reno will both be contenders for the district championship this season. The Tigers have a lot of talent to contend for the title. But the Tigers will need to overcome speed bumps during their non-district schedule.
During the last ten years, the Ardmore Tigers has been a consistent contender in Class 5A. The Tigers have made thirteen straight playoff appearances. In recent years, the Tigers have fallen behind two perennial powers in the Class of 2019, Midwest City and Bishop McGuinness.
Ardmore has a lot of talent. Five starters return on the offensive side of the ball. Quarterback Cal Swanson is one of the best in the state. He has committed to play college football at the University of Illinois. He completed 67 percent of his passes in his junior year.
The Tigers are returning a great tailback complement in Eric Fields. He has rushed for three touchdowns in his senior year. He will share time at running back with C.J Williams, who had several big games as a junior.
The Tigers are ranked eighth in Class 5A in preseason rankings. The Tigers will have a tough road test late in the season against Midwest City, which has been a perennial playoff team in 6A-2 over the last ten years.
In 2023, the Tigers will have to replace some of their skill players, but they have several good 2023 quarterbacks. They will also need to replace a few skill players on the offensive side of the ball. Fortunately, they bring back some talented offensive linemen.
The Tigers will have to put up points early in the season. After a bye week in the middle of the season, Ardmore will play its traditional rival, Ada, in Week 9 of the regular season.
The Tigers will be looking to build momentum after their non-district schedule. They have a bye in week four, so they will have time to prepare for district play.
Having seen the Tigers play a number of times over the years, I’d say their latest incarnation is a far cry from their heyday. It’s hard to believe that the Tigers had more than a handful of seniors in the mix. The likes of Bryce Allen, Gavin Lewis, and CJ Williams have all been around the block. The’vets aren’t exactly the sexiest around. But they’re still a handful of studs who know how to make a buck. And the Tigers’ biggest draw is the home-field advantage.
The Tigers have won a whopping thirteen games in 2018. The Tigers will look to improve on that total this year. The Tigers have a new quarterback in the shape of Creed Cox. Despite the Tigers’ stout defense, the Tigers’ offense is more than capable of outshining the competition. The aforementioned’vets aren’t likely to play spoiler, but the Tigers’ defense still holds sway until the 2021 season. The Tigers will have a tough time against the likes of Ada in the traditional rivalry game. But there is no doubt that the Tigers will prove to be a factor in the upcoming 5A-1 title race. Having the best defense in the league isn’t all that bad. The Tigers have won a few games on the road and have a decent home field advantage. But they’ll need to be on their game if they want to win the 5A-1 title. The Tigers have a few chintzes in their arsenal and the likes of CJ Williams, Bryce Allen and Gavin Lewis aren’t going to make a lot of excuses.
Despite having a mediocre performance by their quarterback, the Ardmore Tigers still picked up their first win of the year with a 49-28 rout of the Durant Lions. While Ardmore sputtered to a 2-2 start, they’ve still accumulated a nice 16-7 edge over the Lions in the 26-year history of the rivalry.
The Tigers’ most impressive performance was in the second quarter. Ardmore outscored Durant 17-7 in the second period, including a 34-yard touchdown run from tailback Braedon Vance. The Tigers also scored on an interception and a fourth-quarter field goal. This game has been played on a rainy afternoon, but that didn’t stop the Tigers from scoring the longest touchdown in school history.
In the first half, the Tigers’ defense stood strong. Durant’s quarterback Cade Buchanan tossed a touchdown pass to Jenna Simmons in the first quarter. After that, the Tigers scored four touchdowns of their own.
While the Tigers have not had a great season so far, there’s plenty of reason to be optimistic for their third. Several talented athletes have graduated and could potentially help the Tigers make a splash this season. In addition to the aforementioned eight, the Tigers also have two players signed to NCAA Division 2 programs. This could be a breakout year for Ardmore.
The Tigers could use another big year from their senior quarterback and running back Derick Peters. Peters is a dual threat who can make a difference on the ground and through the air. The Tigers could also be in line for a breakthrough season from their wide receivers, such as Raven Henderson and Jason Harding. If they can find the right combination, they could make a run at a state title.
Having played football since he was six years old, Cal Swanson has a number of great memories on the gridiron. Currently a Sr. at Ardmore High School, he has already received an offer from Illinois to play football in the Power 5 program. He has also scheduled an official visit to Champaign, Illinois this weekend.
He played in varsity games last season as a starting quarterback. Swanson threw for 206 yards a game and showed good judgment and decision making as a junior. He also received votes from the District 5A-1 coaches for Offensive Player of the Year.
He has great vision downfield and has good ball placement. He is also super athletic and elusive. He is a Dual Threat QB, who can extend the field with explosive downfield passes. He has excellent arm strength and can also pick up defensive pressure.
He is also a prototypical size for a blindside blocker. He could become one of the best tackles in class 5A.
He has a cannon for an arm and has excellent ball placement. He is also long striding and difficult to stop in the backfield. He has excellent vision downfield and is a true competitor. He has also received a Power 5 offer from Illinois coach Bret Bielema.
During the first half of the game, Ada led 7-0. However, Ardmore responded with two big runs by running back CJ Williams. He scored on a 40-yard run with 6:21 left in the third quarter. He also returned two punts for touchdowns. The Tigers’ defense held Duncan to a two-point conversion. They took over at their own 31 with 9:33 left in the second quarter.
The Tigers held off a late rally by Duncan to win the district game 28-21. Ardmore has now won three district games. They open their 5A-1 schedule at Noble on August 26.
