Arab Knights Football

Despite losing their first two games of the season, the Arab Knights football team are still looking to get back on track. With a team full of talented players, they are sure to be a contender for the championship. But how can they achieve this?

Defense

Having a good defense is a must for a high school football team to survive and win games. This week, two AHSAA Class 5A playoff teams went head to head: Arab and Moody. Both teams are 10-1 on the season and are looking to advance in the playoffs. The two teams have met once before, though. Moody defeated Arab High 42-20 in the second round of the playoffs in 2007.

The Arabian Knights have made it to round three in the playoffs for the first time in school history. They defeated East Limestone in the first round and Moody in the second round. They will be hosting For Payne on Friday, Sept. 23 at 7:00 p.m. They will be looking to advance to the round of eight for the first time since 2009. Moody’s offense didn’t score much and their defense allowed Arab to score four touchdowns.

The Arab Knights were able to score their first touchdown of the night on a 75-yard drive. This was a good move by coach Oscar Glassock and his defense, but it was the only touchdown they would score in the entire game. The Arab defense gave the ball back to the offense midway through the fourth quarter. They made a good move by forcing Moody to punt.

Arab’s defense also did a number on the Blue Devils, holding them to their first score of the night on a pass. The Moody offense also showed off its skills with a long scoring drive. They moved the ball deep into Arab territory, but they were unable to convert the two-point conversion. They had to settle for a field goal, which is the only other time this season they have failed to score a touchdown.

Moody had a long drive, but the game’s most impressive moment came from a fumble. Arab recovered the ball on their own seven-yard line and scored a touchdown on the next play. This was the first time Moody had ever fumbled a touchdown.

The Arabian Knights also displayed the best defense in the game, holding Moody to only six points. This was a very impressive feat for the Knights, considering they had only six opponents in their region. They went 248-57 in their region schedule, including an impressive 49-16 victory over Warren County. The defense is led by senior rover Hayes O’Reilly and nose tackle Will Caneer. They also had a number of other solid defensive plays, including a kick-catch interference penalty that set them up in the perfect position.

The Arab Knights are coached by Oscar Glassock, who spent four years at the University of Alabama under Bill Curry. He also had a three-year stint as a safety, including six interceptions in his career. This is his first season as head coach of Arab.

Preparation

Despite the aforementioned title, the Arabian Knights football team was able to pull off the best season in their school’s history. The Knights defeated East Limestone and Moody to make it to round three of the playoffs. They are set to face For Payne on September 23 at 7:00 p.m. This is the team’s third appearance in the playoffs. They will have a chance to make the final four.

The Knights did not have the easiest time containing Moody’s offense. A punt by Strickland was muffed by the Blue Devils in the third quarter. However, the Knights’ defense was up to the task, holding Moody to three points and holding them to no more than two in the second half. The Knights were able to take advantage of this by scoring a pair of touchdowns in the third and fourth quarters. The final score was 42-20. The Knights have a lot to prove in their quest to earn a spot in the finals.

The Blue Devils opted to punt on their ensuing drive. However, their defense was able to keep the Knights’ offense off the field and take the ball away from them. The Blue Devils did have a couple of big plays, including a long pass play by Cox that was tipped by Strickland. The Knights’ defense also helped their offense by forcing a punt on the first of the ensuing drives. The Knights were able to take full advantage of this by putting together an eight minute scoring drive. Considering the competition, this was a very impressive effort.

The best thing to do is to prepare for the next round of playoffs. The Knights have the chance to prove themselves against the best of the best. The next round is a real test of wills. The best way to get prepared is to watch their rivals. The top notch defenses will prove to be a great team to watch over the next few weeks.

Moody Blue Devils

Neither team in the Moody Blue Devils-Arab Knights football rivalry has won a playoff game in the last two seasons. The Knights, who defeated the Tigers 27-0 on Friday, closed out the regular season at Boaz on Sunday and advance to round three of the playoffs. The Blue Devils, who fell 42-20, haven’t won a game in the first round of the playoffs since 1999.

After a slow start, the Knights put together a lengthy scoring drive. Drake Franklin ran for 186 yards and five touchdowns on 34 bruising carries. He scored on runs of 25 and 33 yards. Franklin’s third touchdown run gave the Knights their first lead of the game with 33 seconds left in the half.

The Knights’ defense forced Moody to turn the ball over on downs on the next possession. Arab recovered a muffed punt from Blue Devils’ punter Trey Strickland on the seven-yard line. Hayden O’Reilly broke free on a big run down the sideline. The Knights’ defense held Moody out of the end zone for most of the remaining time.

The Knights’ offense stepped up after the punt, going on an 11-play drive and scoring twice. The first score came on a 3-yard run by Franklin. The Knights were able to move the chains after a pass from Cox to McCain. The second score came on a 5-yard run by Ed Johnson. Johnson finished 8-of-17 passing for 144 yards.

The Blue Devils had a chance to tie the game late in the fourth quarter, but they were forced to turn the ball over on downs. The Knights were able to convert fourth down on their next possession. Then, after a Moody punt, Arab recovered the ball at the seven-yard line. The Knights were able to run out most of the remaining time.

In the second half, Moody matched Arab’s first-half scoring, but the Knights pulled away in the second half. The Blue Devils’ offense couldn’t get anything going on their last drive of the game. Moody turned the ball over on downs after a short drive. Then, on their next possession, the Knights recovered a muffed punt from Strickland and scored again. The extra point from Wooten was good and gave the Knights a 35-20 lead with eight minutes to go in the game.

The Knights’ defense was a major difference in the game, holding Moody to only six points and forcing a punt on their last two possessions. The defense forced Moody to turn the ball over twice in the first half, including a fumble that was recovered by Arab.

The Knights also held Moody’s defense out of the end zone on their first three possessions of the third quarter, giving the offense great field position and the chance to score. Moody scored with seven minutes to play in the third quarter, but the Blue Devils were unable to score again.
