Despite playing their first game of the season on Thursday, the Arabian Knights (1-0) took care of business against the Aggies (0-0). Despite a few tough moments in the first quarter, the Knights were able to lead the Aggies by the end of the second. Albertville cut the lead to 20-7 after a few minutes of play. However, the Knights were able to pull away with a 60-yard run by Hayden O’Reilly to open the third quarter. After the Aggies had their first opportunity of the night to score, the Knights took it to them with a fourth-down stop. With five minutes to go in the third quarter, the Knights were able to punt and put the ball back in their possession. The Knights continued to drive deep into Albertville territory and scored on a touchdown run by Drew Puccio.

Albertville got a break in the game with a pass-interference call on their first play of the second half. The Knights then gained a first down inside the 15-yard line. However, after a few more first downs, the Aggies ran out of field position. Then, on the next play, Drew Puccio ran 56 yards for a touchdown. This put the Arab Knights up 47-7 early in the second half. The Knights would continue to put pressure on the Aggies, as Drake Franklin and Drew Puccio both ran for touchdowns in the second half.

The Knights did not slow down in the second half. In fact, they pulled away early. The first half was a great demonstration of the team’s offensive prowess, and the second half was a good reminder that the Knights are a younger team that can play with the best. They were able to put the Aggies on their heels with a stifling defense and a great field position.

The Albertville volleyball team will also be playing its first game of the season this week. The team is hoping to draw on its returners from Oxford and Anniston, two other local volleyball teams. This is a new program for the school, which did not have a flag football team last season. However, students approached Lambert about starting the program, and he secured funding for travel and stipends for coaches.

If you are interested in joining the team, or are looking for a way to support your favorite student athlete, you can visit the Sand Mountain Park and Amphitheater. The park offers multi-purpose fields, and the National Flag Football League has formed a partnership with the park.
