It’s also important to know what each team’s strengths are and how they play against each other. By understanding these things, you can have a better idea of who to root for.
Earlier this month, the Central Board of Control for the Alabama High School Athletic Association unanimously approved the reclassification of the Albertville Aggies to Class 7A. Albertville High School will join James Clemens, Austin, and Sparkman in Class 7A Region 4. It will mark the fifth time in the program’s history that it has advanced past the section semifinals.
Albertville’s Elijah Moss picked up yardage for the Aggies during their win over Hazel Green. The Arab defense smothered the Aggies most of the night. The defense held Albertville to just one first down, and the Aggies were unable to score on that possession.
The Arab Knights racked up 346 yards of offense in the first half. The offense scored on a fourth down stop and a touchdown on a fumble by Albertville. The Knights also held Albertville to just one first down in the second half. The defense held Albertville to no points in the third quarter, and the Knights extended their lead early in the fourth quarter. The Knights punted for the first time in the game when five minutes remained in the quarter.
Arab’s defense continued to shut down Albertville’s offense, and the Knights’ younger players kept the Aggies off the board. Arab led by a commanding margin after the first three minutes of the second quarter. The Knights led by as many as 33-7 after four minutes of play. During the second half, Arab’s defense continued to stifle the Aggies’ offense, and Drew Puccio ran for 56 yards. The Knights also got a touchdown from Hayden O’Reilly, who ran for 10 yards. The lead reached a commanding 47-7 before the Aggies’ defense caught up.
Getting a whack at the ball is a rite of passage for the Albertville Aggies. The team is now in Class 7A Region 4 in the state of Alabama. They will have a shot at moving on to the Class 7A state championship in the fall of 2020. This is a much more competitive field than it was last season, but it still takes a lot of hard work to reach the top of the Class 7A barrel.
In the statewide competition, the Alamo High School aces haven’t been around too long, but the Tigers have made a splash on the recruiting trail. The new program has a new coach and a fresh set of players, including one of the state’s best linebackers in Pat Callahan, who will be back to defend his home turf in the spring. He is also a former high school football player himself, and was named the AHSA Athlete of the Year in 2012. In addition to his newfound success on the field, Callahan also has the honor of being named the AHSA Coach of the Year for the Class 7A in the state of Alabama.
Despite a few setbacks, the Albertville Aggies came away with their first victory of the season by beating Grissom 47-14. They’ll play their rivals from Boaz on Friday. It’s the first time the Aggies have been victorious in the 7A division since 2020. A special thanks goes out to Coach Bob Jones and his staff for their tireless work on and off the field. Albertville earned the Tyler Mann Team of the Week award for week four.
In a game where both teams opted to play the conservative game plan, the Aggies were not able to score a single touchdown in the entire first half. The Arab Knights, on the other hand, took full advantage of their first and second downs with a couple of impressive first down runs from Drake Franklin and a few pass completions from Brody McCain. The Arabs’ defense also kept the Aggies out of the end zone and made the most of their field position.
The Arabs’ offense also racked up the most yards in the first half, despite having to turn the ball over four times. The aforementioned ‘few’ first downs was a mere trinket compared to the 346 yards and five touchdowns scored by the Knights. The Arabs also did a good job of stifling the Aggies’ passing game, with five different defenders earning interceptions. The Arabs were also impressive on the ground, rushing for more than a hundred yards and holding Albertville to a mere one first down. The Aggies were in field position when they were penalized for a pass interference call in the middle of the endzone. The aforementioned slam dunk was only beaten out by a first down run from Franklin, who ran for a nifty 31 yards.
Despite a promising start, Albertville lost a homecoming game to Huntsville last week. The Aggies were unable to find their footing after scoring two touchdowns in the second quarter to take a 21-0 lead. The team went on to lose 34-7. The Aggies are 4-2 on the season. Next up for the Aggies is Grissom on Friday.
Albertville lost another game last week, this time to the Moody Blue Devils. The team started off strong, scoring three touchdowns in the first quarter. But, the team’s offense could not sustain the momentum, as the team scored only one touchdown in the fourth quarter. After Albertville went 80 yards in five plays, the Blue Devils stopped the Aggies’ offense on three plays.
After a fumble, the team was unable to find the end zone. But, the Blue Devils did put up a fight. The team’s offense was able to get the ball back after Chelsea was penalized for a late hit on the Aggies. The team regrouped and drove to the Aggies’ 18-yard line.
On the next play, the team was flagged for unsportsmanlike conduct. The Aggies were forced to go 80 yards on five plays to get the ball back. The team then took the ball on its own 24. On the next play, the Aggies committed an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty, which moved the ball back to the 39-yard line.
The Aggies got the ball back with 7:15 to go in the fourth quarter. But, Albertville’s offense could not get anything going. The team was unable to score on the next two plays. The Aggies had to settle for a missed field goal.
Located in Albertville, Alabama, the Albertville Aggies are a four-year public high school with an enrollment of approximately 1,700 students. The school recently completed construction on its new football field and gymnasium. The school has a track and field program as well as a variety of other extracurricular activities. Albertville is an A-rated school, accredited by the Alabama Department of Education.
The Albertville Aggies’ football team is looking to write a different story this year. After losing to Southside Gadsden by two points, the Aggies are now 4-2 and looking to win their first playoff game since 1993. They will face Columbia High School on August 31.
The Albertville High athletics have had a solid year. They have won back-to-back overtime games and also won a six-point game over rival Boaz. The Aggies have also displayed a number of other gizmos and gadgets this season.
The statewide high school football scores are available for both the AHSAA and AISA regular seasons. The Albertville Aggies’ football team will play against Columbia High School on August 31. In addition, the school will make its annual visit to the University of Alabama.
The aforementioned AHSAA and AISA class alignments will be announced shortly after the end of the basketball season. This is a great time to see the best teams in the area play a game or two. A number of teams will have a home-field advantage, but the competition is fierce. With the new football field and gym, the Albertville High School is ready to show off its talents. Whether the Aggies win or lose, the fans can look forward to a successful season.
